  • How long would it take to get from Sydney to Alice Springs by train?

How long would it take to get from Sydney to Alice Springs by train?
I guess it will take you two days: one day from Sydney to Adelaide, and one day from Adelaide to Alice Springs. For further information (fares and timetables) have a look at
    http://www.railaustralia.com.au/

If you have time I'd recommend booking a guided bus tour from Adelaide to Alice Springs (maybe even passing Uluru and King's Canyon): there are a lot of tours available and you'll see much more of the country because they're only driving during daylight and will stop at interesting places and over night - the train doesn't.
How long would it take to get from Sydney to Alice Springs by train?
About 3 or 4 days (guess). There is no direct line. You have to go to Port Augusta (near Adelaide) and change trains. I don't think either train runs every day.

Unless you have a lot of time and money and just HAVE to take the train, it's cheaper and easier to fly. More time to spend at Alice Springs and Uluru.

Just over an hour on a plane

    about 10 hours driving

    about 12 on a bus

    never done it by train
Flight time is 1hr 5 mins, without delays but the airlines allow 1 hr 30 mins as Syd airport is sometimes congested. Car can be done in about 9 hrs, Bus prob a little longer say 12 and train 10 hrs. More beneficial to catch a plane these days!!
it takes about 1hr 15 Min's by air plane and there are flights on average every 15 Min's between the different airlines that fly between the two cities. Air travel is the cheapest option for this route

How long should it take us to receive a Regional Skilled Migration Visa to Australia?

We just mailed our skills assessment and expect to receive a good result. We will be moving to either Western Australia, Tasmania, South Australia, or Victoria, in one of the wine regions. We are hoping to purchase a vineyard/orchard/bed and breakfast accommodation and manage it ourselves. We are applying for the skilled regional visa rather than the business owner's visa to give us more flexibility in employment. Any suggestions?
How long should it take us to receive a Regional Skilled Migration Visa to Australia?
    Hi there,

Processing time will depend on a couple on things, e.g. the state you apply to and your nominated occupation.

Also, is it the Skilled Independent Regional (SIR) visa or the State / Territory Nominated Independent (STNI) you are applying for? If you are thinking of applying for the SIR are you aware that it is only a temporary residence visa in which case it might be worthwhile investigating your permanent residence options.

If you email me your details at answers@visalogic.net I can provide you with more exact information.

How long is the trip from UTAH to Australia ? Do I need a passport to enter Australia ?

How long is the trip from UTAH to Australia ? Do I need a passport to enter Australia ?
You need a passport to even leave America. So yes, you need a passport. You also need a visa; if you're just travelling, then an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) will be suitable, which you can buy for about 20 dollars online. This gives you a full year of maximum three month visits (Ie., you land in Aust., you have three months, before which you have to leave; but you can come right back after getting your passport marked by another country, so you can just go somewhere like New Zealand, stay at the airport overnigh, and come strait back, you can do this for up to 4 three month periods, or as many that will be allowed in the year the ETA is valid from the time you purchased it.) From Utah; how long is it from there to LAX (Los Angeles) or SAN (San Fransisco)? From Los Angeles; it is about 13 hours (flown overnight) to New Zealand, where there is usually a stop over. From New Zealand, to depending where you want to go in Australia; from Auckland NZ to Melbourne, AU, it's about 4 additional hours.
It's worth the trip, though; I love it here. I didn't come for a vacation, came to be with my man, who's an Aussie; but it's a great place to visit; as well. You'll find the people open and welcoming here; they love foreiners; especially yankees like your, and my, self, lol.

Qantas is a fabulous airline, I flew from Auckland to Toronto, Canada and it took me 21 1/2 hours and I had to change planes in Vancouver. Which was a very quick switch. You are about basically in the same geographical location as me, so about the same. Flights very drastically though, you can stop in LA, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Fiji, Cooks Islands etc. All before landing, keep that in mind if you want to explore more on your vacation. Overall probally will be the longest flight of your life, was for me anyhow, took me a bit longer to get down that way, had 2 stops. May I suggest a lot reading material, crosswords etc., music, cards, it feels like forever.

    Have fun :)

How long is a flight from Albany, NY to Sydney, Australia?

How long is a flight from Albany, NY to Sydney, Australia?
There isn't a nonstop flight, so you will to add time for a connection and stops enroute.

QANTAS and Air Tahiti Nui have direct (same plane with stops) service. The trip from JFK to SYD including the stop over takes 22-24 hours depending on the itinerary.

There is no nonstop service from Albany to JFK, and the shortest enroute time is 3.5 hours, so the entire trip can be expected to take 27-28 hours not including time on the ground for a connection in New York.

Most developed countries can issue a passport within a couple of weeks however this is increasing as biometric passport are introduced.

You also need to remember that everyone needs a visa to enter Australia (except Australian and New Zealand passport holders) - again, depending on your nationality and where you currently reside this can take anywhere from a day to a couple of months to be processed.

It depends on which country. In Canada if u like to get it on emergency basis u'll get the passport on the same day. U just have to go to the pasport office with the Ticket which will prove that u r travelling pretty soon. If u don't have a ticket then u could just tell the authority that u haven't recieved u'r ticket from u'r travel agent yet. Actually that's for the renewal. But if u need a new passport then it might take a week or so.
i'm not sure i'm just here for the points.thanks
i suggest you getting your application processed as fast as possible.

i can take up to 8 weeks to get a passport if they are really busy.

of course you can pay a fee and get it done in a week or two but if you think that you are travelling overseas then get one now. they are valid for 10 years
I was always told six weeks, but I always got mine in three weeks.

How long does it take a reasonably fit person to climb Uluru (Ayers Rock as was)?

How long does it take a reasonably fit person to climb Uluru (Ayers Rock as was)?
The answer to your question is one hour. When I went I didn't climb it but the view from the base is all you need. I saw it at sunrise and it isn't the view of everything else you want to see.it is Uluru. I then also saw The Olgas at sunset which was perhaps even more beautiful.

However, it is not advised to climb it. It is comparable to people climbing up the walls of a Church. This is the note from the Aboriginal people of the area:

"The existing Uluru climb is the traditional route taken by ancestral men on their arrival at Uluru. Because this path is of great spiritual significance, Anangu (the traditional Aboriginal owners of Uluru) rarely climb Uluru.

"Although Anangu have given permission for visitors to climb Uluru, Anangu prefer if you choose to respect the cultural significance of Uluru and do not climb.

"As well, the traditional owners have a duty to safeguard visitors. Anangu feel great sadness when a person dies or is hurt on their land."

For more information see the Wikipedia page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uluru#Climbing_Uluru

Benji is right - you can't climb Uluru anymore
It took me 2 hours-just because I took it easy, and I'd say the view from the top was amazing- but definately visit the visitors centre before deciding whether to climb. You can still climb it, but the Aboriginals request that you don't. After I'd taken the climb, I wish I would I had respected the Aboriginal requests not to climb, and just walked around it- its huge!!
A couple of hours, but the walk around it is much more interesting.

Melbourne might be getting colder cos its the same latitude as Wellington, NZ

NZ is cooler - it would be from around 20deg celcius in the north to around the low teens to under 10deg in the South Island. It will be raining more, but should still be pleasant. Not really beach weather tho :(

. you won't be getting frost on your windshield in May in Auckland! :)
How is weather in Australia & Newzeland in May ?
look it up on the internet. google, yahoo.
look it up on the internet. google, yahoo.
by May it is starting to get cold (cooler)there. The weather is the opposite of the weather in North America. When we have winter, they have summer etc etc.
The cold temperatures there (in Auckland) are like 10 degrees celcius. Not freezing cold. The coldest day might be frost on the windshield of a car.
Australia is a very big country - as big as the United States so weather changes immensly across the country.

May is Autumn (Fall) in Australia so the temperatures is a little cooler. Sydney (the biggest and most visited city) has Max temperatures of about 20 celcius in May getting down to 9 celcius overnight.

New Zealand is colder as it if further south

As long as you keep away from anywhere that looks dodgy, you'll be fine. Just avoid Vietnamese gangs, they're the main problem here at the moment.

It'll certainly be very good during the Commonwealth Games next month, everyone will be too busy watching sport.

Very safe though you need to use 'common sense'. Downtown gets a bit deserted at night. Safer than Sydney
Melbourne is a safe city. Crime exists in Australia & Melbourne (of course). There is organised crime that onyl generally affects those directly involved. The police force in Australia and Melbourne is generally well staffed and trained.

How is the job market, environment, and people in New Zealand?

My husband and I are looking to relocate there in the coming future, and it would help us a great deal to get information from people who live there, or from anyone who has visited there. We are looking in the Waikato region, but any information on any other location is fine.
How is the job market, environment, and people in New Zealand?
You'll find it easy to settle in NZ, particularly if you have good job skills.
The locals are friendly and inviting. Waikato is quite a rural area but it has lots going for it.

I live in the South Island, by choice. You'll have different tastes and needs from mine of course, but for me the Waikato, and its main city Hamilton, are hot, boring, property there is expensive and it's full of gang members. What sort of work do you plan to look for? If you can work from home, or you've got a trade like plumbing, electrical, engineering, medical, teaching or IT, then have a look at the South Island.

I live in Perth, and find it a very tolerant place. People were probably just looking at you because they could tell you were foreign and were curious.

Dude, if you have a strong work ethic and like a beer or ten then most people won't care where your from or what you look like. Unfortunately there's racism everywhere in the world but since I moved to Australia from England I have hardly seen anywhere the amount I saw back home.

How is New Zealand in August for traveling around three weeks, considering climate etc?

How is New Zealand in August for traveling around three weeks, considering climate etc?
Cold! It is the middle of winter. There are differences in climate between the north and south island so layers is the way to go.

When you get there you can buy thermal layers made from NZ merino wool. They come in under and outer wear and they are really fashionable. You wouldn't know they were thermal! I wore these in cities, as well as treking in Patagonia, so I can vouch for them!

Depending on the season you will also get to see some good snow in the alpine areas.
How is New Zealand in August for traveling around three weeks, considering climate etc?
It's pretty chilly in August!! Some great snow on the slopes so it's a good time for skiing or snowboarding. South Island will obviously be colder than the North Island but in August it's pretty cold all over NZ!

how is bus journey from christchurch to dunedin?
Unfortunately they discontinued the rail service between Christchurch and Dunedin about 3 years ago. It was more interesting than the road trip. From Christchurch to Oamaru the road is flat and straight as you cross the Canterbury plains and North Otago. Then it gets a bit more hilly. The trip takes about 6 hours. You go through Ashburton (pop. 15000), Timaru (50000), Oamaru (25000) and Hampden (5000). You cross several rivers. Oh yeah, just before you reach Rakaia, 56 km from Christchurch, you cross the second-longest road bridge in the southern hemisphere, after the one that crosses Rio harbour.

    Have a nice day
It really depends on what your expecting. It is a very long drawn out trip but there are lots of things to see on the journey. Personally if I was you I drive it myself if I could & take some little side trips along the way. Stopping off at The Moreaki Boulders is something I would suggest & also the penguins at oamaru is worth a look too. You can do these stops & still do the trip in a lot less time than the bus takes.
It is probably the most boring drive in all of New Zealand. I'm not trying to insult that part of New Zealand. I am just so impressed with the rest of the drives around the south island.

The rest of the south island is like driving in a postcard. The drive from Chch to Dunedin is not like that at all. There are nice parts but nothing in comparison to the rest of the island.

how hard is it to get a working/tourist visa for new zealand??

how hard is it to get a working/tourist visa for new zealand??
It is relatively easy to obtain a tourist visa for New Zealand however obtaining a work visa is somewhat more difficult.

NZ change their visa requirements frequently in response to local demand, economic changes, etc. At present, unless you have a job offer or are skilled in an occupation in shortage you will find it difficult to obtain a work visa.

The exception to this is the working holiday visa which is available to people aged between 18-30 who are nationals of:

    Argentina
    Belgium
    Canada
    Chile
    Czech
    Denmark

I may be travelling to Austrailia soon, and was wondering how long it takes to get a passport.
How long does it take to get a passport?
You need to be more specific - what citizenship(s) do you have?

For more information see the Wikipedia page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uluru#Climbing_Uluru

    it is now closed
you can no longer climb the rock now it has been returned to the abos
Benji is right - you can't climb Uluru anymore
It took me 2 hours-just because I took it easy, and I'd say the view from the top was amazing- but definately visit the visitors centre before deciding whether to climb. You can still climb it, but the Aboriginals request that you don't. After I'd taken the climb, I wish I would I had respected the Aboriginal requests not to climb, and just walked around it- its huge!!
A couple of hours, but the walk around it is much more interesting.

How long do you need to be in a relationship to go on your boyfriends visa?

I've got five months left on my visa and have a boyfriend of two months. He's going to get sponsored to stay (he's English I'm Canadian) Can I go on his 4 year visa or do you need to be commonlaw for a long time? I want to stay in Australia but I don't have a degree, or any other way to stay in the country.

You would have to be considered de-facto, not boyfriend and gf. I assume you are living together, so getting that status is not hard. Have a look at the DIMMI website for all the factors you need to consider. I have linked the page you need to look at.

How is weather in Australia & Newzeland in May ?

How is weather in Australia & Newzeland in May ?
All depends on where in Aus./NZ you're going:

Australia will be generally warmer than NZ cos its further north.
Northern Aus is pretty much on the equator so its tropical weather.
Should be nice weather in most of Aust
Melbourne might be getting colder cos its the same latitude as Wellington, NZ

NZ is cooler - it would be from around 20deg celcius in the north to around the low teens to under 10deg in the South Island. It will be raining more, but should still be pleasant. Not really beach weather tho :(

. you won't be getting frost on your windshield in May in Auckland! :)

look it up on the internet. google, yahoo.
look it up on the internet. google, yahoo.
by May it is starting to get cold (cooler)there.

I live in the South Island, by choice. You'll have different tastes and needs from mine of course, but for me the Waikato, and its main city Hamilton, are hot, boring, property there is expensive and it's full of gang members. What sort of work do you plan to look for? If you can work from home, or you've got a trade like plumbing, electrical, engineering, medical, teaching or IT, then have a look at the South Island.

It is relatively easy to obtain a tourist visa for New Zealand however obtaining a work visa is somewhat more difficult.

NZ change their visa requirements frequently in response to local demand, economic changes, etc. At present, unless you have a job offer or are skilled in an occupation in shortage you will find it difficult to obtain a work visa.

The exception to this is the working holiday visa which is available to people aged between 18-30 who are nationals of:

More time to spend at Alice Springs and Uluru.

how long would it take to drive from the gold coast to brisbane and how long by to travel by train?
It takes between 1 and 2 hours to drive. It takes about 1/2 an hour at least to drive to robina train station from the gold coast and I think it takes about another 30 to 40 mins on the train.

I think it depends on what part of the Gold Coast. I was in Surfers and it took 2hours to get to the airport. of course I had to change buses .
    not long.
